Membership in the church takes place by
baptism. No classes, lessons, discussions, applications, interviews,
or approvals are required. No scheduling is necessary and there
should be no delay. Joseph Smith and his contemporary elders
baptized crowds of people lined up by the river. You must only
affirm your belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and affirm that
you have turned from breaking his commandments. Later, members can
partake of the sacrament and be confirmed by laying on of hands of elders.
Most conveniently, you can go to our centrally located elder in
Independence, Missouri; but we also travel occasionally to nearly every
U.S. state; we have an elder in Europe. All people are invited who
are accountable for themselves.
1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of
2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance . . .
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire:
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of
him. (Matthew 3: 1-13)
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of
God. (John 3: 3-5)
36 And as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
(Acts 8: 36-38)
